There is something unmistakable about the rugged, windswept terrain and moody coastline of Vancouver BC. For Spencer and Lindsay's outdoor wedding at UBC Museum of Anthropology overlooking Howe Sound, they celebrated the region's wild and beautiful nature. Their coastal bohemian wedding featured thoughtful, homespun details, stunning scenery and an intimate, global mix of friends and family members. Natural light film photographer Christie Graham says, "They wanted their wedding to be a perfect reflection of their life together. Beautiful ocean and mountain views were enjoyed by all during the intimate ceremony on the hill and cocktails on the lawn. They called in Nuba, their favourite restaurant, to cater the event alongside Cartem's donuts for dessert. "
The bride tells us, "We really wanted our wedding day to feel comfortable and casual, while showing off our favourite things about Vancouver. We selected our wedding venue, UBC Museum of Anthropology, because we loved how it was able to show off some of the best things about the Pacific Northwest. From our ceremony and reception you could see the ocean and the mountains. We also loved how organic it felt, and how all the plants used on the property were native and allowed to grow freely. It was a great contrast next to the modernist-style museum."
"My dress style was "Sweetpea" by Ivy and Aster. I wanted a simple shape with a bit of a bohemian feel, and the swiss dot pattern fit perfectly. Gold details and feather touches added the perfect amount of boho, and Lindsay looked beautiful in her Ivy and Aster gown paired with a delicate gold belt, a dress she couldn't wait to put on!"
The Wedding Style
"We wanted the wedding to have a mix of natural, outdoorsy elements, with a few modern shapes here and there for contrast. The bouquets and centrepieces by Celsia were loose and contained some greenery local to our area. We crafted our wedding arch by hand because we wanted something with a modern feel, and our florist attached flowers to add a bit of a bohemian look."
Food & Drink
"We picked our vendors very carefully...we wanted our guests to feel like they were coming over for dinner, rather than a particularly formal wedding, and we served Lebanese food from our favourite restaurant, Nuba, with doughnuts from another favourite, Cartems, for dessert. All of our beer and wine was local to British Columbia. Most of our decor was handmade, including our arch, signs, bunting, centrepiece boxes and place card holders. For a late night snack we filled a table with McDonalds Cheeseburgers and Fries. I have never seen a dance floor empty so fast!"
