Pinterest and lifestyle blogs have taught all of us that homemade doesn't need to feel budget. On the contrary, making your own accessories allows you to use your creativity, save money, and fashion something utterly unique. (Who better to do you than you?) If you're in the process of planning a wedding, some of these DIY accessories might add the perfect touch of charm to your special day.

Easy Floral Flare for Your Wedding Hair
If you're opting out of a traditional veil and planning on wearing a headpiece instead, there's no reason you can't make your own beautiful hair accessories. You or your florist could always make a floral wedding hair wreath. It's simple, timeless, and adds a touch of whimsy. Plus, you can coordinate it with your flowers and colors for a cohesive design. Similarly, you could ask your hairdresser to weave vibrant blooms into your updo.

A Vintage (Inspired) Headband
With the help of some lace, a headband, and intricate appliques, you can create a look that echoes romantic decades past. A thick band is evocative of the roaring twenties, while a jaunty headpiece adds a 1940's appeal. Feel free to use fabrics that have sentimental value. (If you have one of your grandmother's dresses, for example, incorporate bits of lace or silk.) A similar approach can be used by reappropriating vintage combs.

Some Outside-the-Box DIY Accessories
If you're a fan of personalization, you can monogram a veil with your initials. Talk about a keepsake that will look stunning in photos! In fact, the monogram mania doesn't have to stop there. You can easily monogram the ring bearer pillows, wedding favors, any robes you gift the bridesmaids, and even your flower girls' accessories. How cute would the look carrying sweet, monogrammed baskets of flower petals? If you're a quirky bride-to-be, consider DIY'ing a feathery fascinator. It's retro and a fantastic option for those who want to say "I do" without resorting to a lot of fashion cliches. Pinterest is full of great tutorials and plenty of pictures. Plus, their secret board option lets you plan for your big day without revealing your fashion and thematic game plan!

Something Borrowed & Blue
Recently a friend got married, and the wedding party was fretting about how to give the bride something borrowed and something blue. Solution? My friend ended up dying her shoes a lovely shade of light blue and creating a beautiful wedding broach that incorporated some of her grandma's old jewelry. Consider embellishing your bouquet, your sash, or even a necklace with a combination of heirlooms and flowers. And if you're ever in doubt, you can dye your shoes to a vibrant shade of bridal blue!

What do you think, brides to be? Would you incorporate some of these ideas into your fairytale wedding? What are accessories are you planning on wearing for your wedding day? Do you have a planner, or are you opting for a homemade approach? Leave your comments and suggestions in the space below.
