When photographer Blenda Montoro shared Nikki and Kalawai’a touching love story with us, we just had to pass along the images from their engagement session in Koke’e on Kaua’i.  ”Blenda really captured what we feel for each other and created a true love story with film…when I look at the pictures I feel the “eternity” that is in my heart for this man,” Nikki says.

Kalawai’a and Nikki met five years ago and after a brief long-distance stint, they’ve been inseparable since. “Kalawai’a and I knew we wanted to get married right away, but financially had to keep putting it off. We were completely committed to each other but it was our dream to be a traditional married family.” Kalawai’a’s mother gave him the diamond from her wedding ring to pass along to Nikki. She says, “It was absolutely beautiful and more than anything I could ever dream of.”

During sunset, Kalawai’a asked Nikki to marry him on a camping trip to Polihale for their son’s first birthday. Soon after their engagement, Blenda Miller of Blenda Montoro Photography, held a contest on Facebook called Flaunt your Bling Bling.  Nikki gave it a try, and to her surprise and joy, won. “I could only dream of having an amazing photographer like Blenda capture our love on film,” she says. Before their wedding, they were blessed with another son named Pa’akamana’o. Sadly, this son was born with a severe heart-defect called Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome. Wedding plans were put on-hold as the couple spent the first year of Pa’a’s life fighting for him to survive. Pa’a’s next open-heart surgery will not be for another year, so they are enjoying every moment of normalcy and family life. ”It is now that we are finally able to make the ultimate commitment to each other. If there was ever a question of whether we could endure as a couple, the question has been answered. We have experienced more in the last 5 years than we ever thought we would experience in a lifetime.  When I look into his eyes, I see forever and eternity.”
